The Community Studies and Civic Engagement program presented me with an
abundance of career and leadership opportunities. I have developed programs and formed coalitions to combat gang violence,
mentor and tutor youth, advocate for education and coordinate events to
bring attention to important social topics. The program’s coursework
also prepared me for my studies in nonprofit management in the
Master of Public Administration program here at UB.

The culmination of this experiential curriculum: a capstone course—a field study or internship with a community organization and a senior project that integrates a little bit of everything, including what you've learned in the classroom, on site and through research. By the time you graduate, you'll have spent at least 300 hours serving your community.
You're encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to earn certification in nonprofit management, which prepares you for entry-level professional opportunities in community-serving nonprofits and preferential hiring by a wide range of national nonprofit organizations. You'll step out of the classroom and into your job.
