Don't just write. Publish.
Named one of nine distinctive M.F.A. programs by
Poets & Writers Magazine
. . .
In addition to an array of writing workshops with distinguished faculty and talented fellow students in this 48-credit M.F.A. program:
- you will take courses in book arts, publishing and creativity
- you'll study the publishing process, creating your own print and electronic journals, publishing broadsides and chapbooks, and sending your work out with the guidance of experienced mentors
- your culminating project (or thesis) will be the print or electronic publication of poetry, fiction, essay or memoir that you have written, designed and produced.
Life after grad school:
We're as concerned about what happens to you after you graduate as we are about the time you spend in our program.
- You will be prepared for a life of writing, and the program's unique integration of writing and publishing skills will make you a strong candidate for teaching and publishing positions.
- As a Master of Fine Arts is a terminal degree, it qualifies you to teach at the university level.
- A network of UB alumni is teaching all over the state of Maryland and throughout the country.
Most of our students work, so classes are offered evenings, and some courses are offered in the summer.
